Orangery in the Karlsaue state park Kassel's green lung in the middle of the city centre

Landgrave Karl originally had the Orangery Palace built from 1654 to 1730 as a summer residence and greenhouse for Mediterranean potted plants. The magnificent building is located in the Karlsaue State Park and is home to the largest planetarium in Hesse.

Its programmes are aimed at educational institutions, people interested in astronomy, families with children and anyone who has always wanted to explore space.

Another highlight is the historic marble bath next to the Orangery. It is considered to be the last surviving late Baroque bathing facility and was built between 1722 and 1728 under Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel.

The museum area is currently closed due to the need for basic repairs to the building.

The Orangery originally housed a permanent exhibition of the collection of the Astronomical-Physical Cabinet. The exhibition can currently be seen in small special presentations in the Hessian State Museum.

The Grischäfer in the Orangery is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11.00 to 19.00. Further information at www.grischaefer.de/orangerie.
