50 years of the German Fairy Tale Route - fabulous and legendary

Under this motto, we will be celebrating an anniversary year from April 2025 to Spring 2026. The German Fairy Tale Route was founded fifty years ago, on April 11, 1975. Since then, it has attracted visitors to follow in the footsteps of the famous Brothers Grimm, from their birthplace in Hanau to Kassel, Hamelin and the Bremen Town Musicians. Fairy tales, sagas and legends can be discovered and explored at festivals and museum tours, on fairytale trails and castle towers, in inns and castle hotels  – and the anniversary year will surely provide a surprise or two as well.

Check back regularly here and on Facebook to make sure you don't miss any competitions, new publications, exhibition openings or stage premieres  – or our fabulous festival weekend.

The enchanting anniversary celebration

On May 14, 2025, the members and partners will celebrate the anniversary of the shared world-famous brand with a ceremony in Homberg/Efze. On August 16 and 17, 2025, we invite you and fairytale fans from all over the world to a weekend of festivities at Sababurg Zoo. At the foot of the Sababurg Sleeping Beauty Castle, there will be a colorful program enchanting all the senses for two days.

You can look forward to music and stories, culinary delights and information from the various member towns of the German Fairy Tale Route and real encounters with fairytale and legendary figures, from Cinderella to the Pied Piper and Knight Dietrich to the Seven Dwarfs.

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm have also confirmed their attendance – 212.5 years after the first publication of their legendary Tales of Children and the Home.
