The original "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Märchenstrasse”, which was not constituted as a legal entity, was abolished with effect from 01 July 2007 by the establishment of the "Deutsche Märchenstrasse e.V." On the day of its foundation, the registered association had 41 members, now it is supported by around 70 towns, communities, and other local authorities.
Every two years, the general meeting elects a six-member executive committee and a marketing committee of up to ten members.
The full-time team in the Kassel and Hofgeismar offices coordinates the work of these association bodies and implements their resolutions.
The entire work is geared to the dual purpose of the association as defined in Art. 2 of the statutes:
• to contribute to the preservation and valuation of the German fairy tales, sagas and legends and the cultural heritage of the Brothers Grimm, and
• to position the German Fairy Tale Route sustainably as a cultural tourism quality brand and one of the most important holiday routes.
