Short facts

UNESCO World Heritage Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe

Stroll along the paths of the landgraves against a fairytale backdrop, discover art lovers and cultural patrons of past centuries and their treasures, surrounded by beautiful nature.

The largest of its kind in Europe, Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013, invites you to take a walk or hike. Along the way, you will discover numerous beauties of garden art, architecture and culture that inspired Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm during their lifetime. Hercules, the image of the ancient legendary hero and landmark of Kassel, towers high above Kassel, from where you can look out over the entire city.

At the foot of Hercules, the water features with their cascades, waterfalls, the aqueduct and the large fountain have been fascinating visitors for 300 years.

Directions

Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is located to the west of Kassel city centre, at the end of Wilhelmshöher Allee. This is where the water games take place. Please note that the Bergpark is not barrier-free and can only be experienced on foot. Access by car or bus is not permitted. From our guest car parks below Wilhelmshöhe Palace or the stops on tram lines 1 and 4, you will have to climb up to 300 metres in altitude. The steps of the baroque cascades have no fixed railings. We recommend sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather and, in summer, plenty to drink.

Parking facilities

Paid parking spaces are available at the Wilhelmshöhe and Herkules visitor centres.

The Park-KombiTicket is valid on water play days for a maximum of 7 people at the same time as a ticket for the KVG bus route 23.

Bus route 23 shuttles back and forth between the Herkules Visitor Centre and the Wilhelmshöhe Visitor Centre on water play days.

More info

The water games take place annually from 1 May to 3 October on Wednesdays, Sundays and public holidays from 14:30.

Safety advice!

The trick fountains can only be experienced on foot, with over 200 metres of elevation gain downhill. Sure-footedness, sturdy footwear and physical fitness are essential in the Bergpark, as the paths are paved but only partially accessible. The steps at the cascades have no railings.

Two paths to the trick fountains:

The trick fountains start at the Hercules Monument. There are two ways to get to the trick fountains: If you travel to Hercules, you have the option of following the water all the way to the large fountain; part of the route is via the cascade steps and is not barrier-free. A visit without the cascade steps is possible by travelling via Wilhelmshöhe Palace and using the shuttle bus (subject to a charge) through the Bergpark. Alternatively, you can take a walk to the cascades (1.5 hours, uphill, paved paths).
