St Kilian's Church

Short facts

  • Höxter

The church towers of different heights form the landmark of the town of Höxter

The oldest church building, the town's landmark, was built in the first third of the 12th century. A special feature are the towers of different heights. While the northern tower of the parish church is 48 metres high, the southern town tower is only 45 metres high and used to serve as a watchtower and municipal archive.

An early mission church on this site has been documented since around the year 800. The precious Renaissance pulpit from 1597 shows the four virtues of wisdom, justice, valour and temperance on the alabaster parapet relief.
