Romantik Bad Rehburg mit Tourist-Information

Short facts

  • Rehburg-Loccum

Former spa facilities with museum of the Hanoverian royal house.

The Romantik Bad Rehburg also houses the tourist information office for the town of Rehburg-Loccum.

Idyllically situated between two mountain ridges and framed by a beautiful forest backdrop, this is the best-preserved royal spa from the Romantic period in Germany. Its origins date back to 1690, when the healing effects of the local springs were first mentioned in a document. Between 1750 and 1850 in particular, the spa town known at the time as the "Madeira of the North" attracted the Hanoverian aristocracy to Bad Rehburg. Even the Hanoverian royal family spent their spa stays here "for the sake of health and pleasure". During this time, the Gesundbrunnen was developed into a magnificent spa complex: Bathhouses, spa hotels, a promenade hall, the spa park, a chapel and, in the surrounding area, a multitude of walking paths along secluded vantage points were built.

The park and building ensemble itself, built between 1750 and 1850, is well worth seeing. Particularly impressive:
  • the early classicist New Bathhouse (built between 1778 and 1786),
  • the Wandelhalle (1843/44) with historic glazed veranda and colonnade,
  • the Friederikenkapelle (1841/42),
  • the former fountain house (1753),
  • as well as parts of the old spa park and the historic forest promenades, which run for 34 km through the Rehburg Hills.
In the 12 former bathing cabins of the "New Bathhouse" of the historic spa complex, the themes of wellness & spa, the Romantic era and the history of the spa town are presented in an entertaining and fresh design. Guests can also get active themselves, for example by trying their hand at being a Romantic artist on a canvas or making a silhouette (or a selfie) to send to a good friend.

Audio stations allow guests to listen to poems or pieces of Romantic music, among other things. Reports by "fountain pastors" from the 18th and 19th centuries on the "goings-on at the Rehburg fountain" will also be recited - read by pastors Michael Kalla and Joachim Diestelkamp from Rehburg-Loccum. Using selected exhibits, flip books and digital presentations, visitors can get an idea of the special, eventful history of the former royal spa town. There is also a small "spa laboratory", which explores the themes of water and wellness and invites visitors to experiment.

Other attractions include changing art exhibitions and a year-round cultural program in the historic event room. Guided tours of the museum and the promenades are available by appointment at any time. The Rehburg-Loccum Tourist Information Office is located in the Wandelhalle.

The Tourist Information Office provides guests with brochures about sights, leisure activities and events in Rehburg-Loccum and the surrounding area. Guided tours can be booked here and gifts and postcards are available.

In the lobby of Romantik Bad Rehburg there are public toilets including a toilet for people with disabilities, which are accessible during the opening hours of the Tourist Information.
