Historic Packhof

History

The historic Packhof was built as a warehouse between 1839 and 1840 at the so-called Schlagdspitze. Together with the nearby Alter Packhof (now Hotel Alter Packhof), it was used to store goods for long-distance trade during the 19th century.

The Packhof lost its economic significance when the Weser Navigation Act abolished the right to stack goods in 1823. Its size and sober façade make it stand out from the half-timbered houses in the old town. Today, the premises are used for events and art exhibitions.

The high-water marks on the building are based on the historical marks on the town hall, the church and the houses in the town.

Kollektiv Packhof

A dynamic collective from Kassel and Hann. Münden has come together to breathe new life into the Packhof after 150 years of vacancy. Through a variety of cultural events and activities, we are reviving this historic site to new splendour. The Packhof, long forgotten, is now once again a lively meeting place for people of all generations. People come together here to meet, exchange ideas and enjoy life together. We are proud to have created a place that strengthens the local community and enriches cultural life in Hann. Münden.

Art and culture

Our art and culture programme is a top priority for us. From May to September, we organise exhibitions, run a small art cinema and offer live music. We also work closely with regional organisations such as Kunst Denkmahl and the Reading Network. In the future, we plan to realise long-term exhibition concepts in collaboration with external partners. Together with the city, we also offer guided tours to present the unique history of the Packhof.
