Fairytale fountain

Short facts

  • Steinau an der Straße

For the 200th birthday of the Brothers Grimm, a fairy tale fountain was built on the market square.

The fountain, created by the Würzburg sculptor W. Finger-Rokitnitz, shows well-known and less well-known fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm.

A column protrudes from the center of the circular fountain, around which fairy tale motifs are laid in relief, these are connected by plant shapes. The materials chosen for the fountain, limestone and sandstone, give the fountain its fairytale look. Other fairy tale characters can be admired at the edge of the fountain: a dragon spouting water, a cancer and a princess. The frog prince is sitting in the fountain basin. The two figures, the princess and the frog prince, are made of bronze and represent the characteristic figures of the fountain.

The end of the four-meter-high fountain column is adorned with the Sleeping Beauty Castle.
