The equestrian town of Verden is home to a very special excursion destination: the nationally central museum on the cultural history of the horse is a modern, informative and exciting highlight for all generations. Experience the exciting development from the prehistoric horse to the current equestrian sport and at the same time an important part of our own cultural history. Take the reins into your own hands on the coach box, look at the world around you through the eyes of a horse, try side-saddle riding or take a leisurely virtual ride around the Verden racecourse. The great importance of horses for mankind over the centuries becomes clear: helpers in agriculture, transportation, mining or war.

The spectrum of museum objects ranges from the original-sized model of the prehistoric horse 55 million years ago to historical riding and driving equipment, paintings and sculptures to today's equestrian disciplines. Special children's stations also make the tour an experience for younger visitors. The museum also includes an extensive photo archive and the hippological museum library with more than 18,000 titles from the early 16th century to the present day. Civil wedding ceremonies can also be held here (Verden registry office: Tel. 04231 / 12-263 or 12-260). Founded in the 1920s, the museum is located in the former classicist cavalry barracks from 1831 on Holzmarkt in Verden, right next to the train station.

The German Horse Museum includes a photo archive and the hippological museum library with around 18,000 titles from the early 16th century to the present day. 

NEW: From now on, the museum can be explored as part of an Escape Tour. The exhibition serves as a puzzle backdrop - an innovative offer for all those who like puzzles and combinations. It is an app-supported Escape Tour in which mechanical puzzles have to be cracked and tricky brainteasers solved. The goal: Professor Quantus wants to travel back 55 million years in the history of the earth with a self-built time-space camera in order to photograph the prehistoric horse for his horse-crazy daughter? Who will be able to help him?
