On July 13th, 1025, the church “of the Holy Cross”, now known as the parish church “Stiftskirche” for short, was consecrated by Empress Cunegonde.
This year, Kaufungen is celebrating the 1000th anniversary of the parish church “Stiftskirche”.
It impresses with its size, the red wooden ceiling originally intended as a temporary solution and the medieval murals. Its two organs are a particular treasure.
After the Reformation, the church became Protestant and was property of the Kaufungen convent. The Protestant parish has been using it for its events for a long time.
Over the past 20 years, it has undergone its last major renovation, which will be completed this year with the completion of the interior furnishings.
The Protestant parish has prepared festive events in the anniversary year in cooperation with the Kaufungen convent and the municipality as well as other institutions, associations, groups and local people:
A celebration weekend is planned for July 11st-13th, 2025.
But starting in January, every 13th of the month, the day of consecration, there will be special events, festivals, high-profile music and special services. Many other events will also take place.
