Directions

You start your tour at the historic town hall. To start, cycle through the pedestrian zone (yes, you are allowed to cycle at walking pace here) and then continue straight ahead, keeping left after Nicolaistraße onto Brenkhäuser Straße. Follow the road over the traffic lights at the junction with the main road, past the General Weber barracks until you reach another set of traffic lights. Turn right here and after approx. 300 metres turn left again into Bödexer Weg. Follow the road and then the tarmac forest path to the end and keep right. Cross fields and meadows and continue slightly uphill towards the village of Brenkhausen. When you reach the centre, turn left at the crossroads and shortly afterwards right. You are now at Brenkhausen Monastery, the German bishop's seat of the Coptic Church. The monastery is open to guests and a visit with a short rest is recommended.
Then follow the designated route along the edge of the forest to the main road. Follow the cycle path along and shortly afterwards under the main road and turn right after the horse farm. At the top, follow the road to the right, cross the bridge and shortly afterwards reach the outskirts of the village of Fürstenau. Here you are greeted by a small wayside shrine. Cross the road, turn left and follow the route carefully until you reach the idyllic pedal pool on the Saumer. An excellent place for a refreshing picnic!
A marvellous descent along the Saumer to the village of Bödexen follows. At the small chapel in Bödexen, turn right and after a very short stretch on the main road, cycle along a well-maintained cycle path through the Bödexen valley towards Albaxen. Once in Albaxen, cross the main road and follow the route through the village to the centre of Albaxen. At the St Dionysius church, follow the route to the right, then immediately right again to reach an idyllic rest area on the Saumer. Time for a break!
Then cycle along Wehrstraße to the end, turn right and cross the main road over a bridge. Shortly afterwards, turn left and zigzag along the route to the end and you will reach the Weser cycle path. Follow the Weser to the right and you will reach Höxter again via several large river loops past the village of Lüchtringen, in front of the Corvey World Heritage Site and along the entrance to the archaeological park.
Tip: Take a break just before Höxter at the Weserscholle and enjoy the wonderful view of the Weser and the towers of the Kilianikirche church in Höxter.
