A destination for the whole family with sandy beach, non-swimmer area, water slide, stand-up paddling, and much more.
The "Stockelache" is a natural swimming lake located in the district of Kleinenglis (part of the city of Borken).
With its sandy beach, bathing islands, non-swimmer area, water slide, fountains, beach volleyball fields, pedal boat and stand-up paddle rental, adventure playground, restaurant, and an almost endless well-maintained sunbathing lawn, the Stockelache Natural Swimming Lake is perfect for sporty and sun-seeking guests of all ages. The lake's water quality is regularly monitored and has an excellent standard. Swimmers appreciate the lake and can often be found there in the early morning hours.
The name "Stockelache" can be traced back to a natural event that occurred west of the former Stockelacher mill. The meadows in that area used to flood during heavy rains and when the water receded, it would remain in the lower-lying meadows and become stagnant, forming a "stockige Lache" (stagnant puddle). This is how the area got its name "Stocklache."
Admission fees:
On days with good weather, access to the lake requires an admission fee, and trained lifeguards are present from 09:00 am to 07:00 pm. Outside of these hours, swimming in the lake is not allowed. On rainy days, access to the lake is free, but lifeguards will not be on site.
