The unmistakable character of the German Fairy Tale Route lies in its many fairytale and legendary cultural travel destinations - from the fairy tale sculpture path through Hanau to the painters' colony in Willingshausen and the Ubbelohde House in Lahntal to Waldeck Castle high above Lake Edersee and the Seven Castles in the Weser mountain region.
But numerous nature destinations also contribute to the attractive diversity of the route. First and foremost a good dozen nature parks as well as the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, recognised as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
By the way: the unique Wilhelmshöhe Mountain Park in Kassel is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site today.
It becomes quickly apparent where Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm once walked, since the scenery can be experienced both as a natural and cultural landscape. Our route offers a tour through the Sababurg primeval forest or selected castle parks as well as through pleasant half-timbered towns: Grebenstein, Wolfhagen, Schieder-Schwalenberg and Schwalmstadt are just a few examples.
