Historic spa facilities at Wilhelmsbad

Short facts

  • Hanau

Historical spa facilities with Comoedienhaus, carousel and Hessian doll and toy museum.

In 1777, the Hereditary Prince Wilhelm von Hessen-Kassel, who resided in Hanau, commissioned the construction of an extensive complex and the conversion of the surrounding forest landscape into an English landscape park with numerous attractions.
The health resort experienced its glamorous climax in September 1818, when the monarchs of the Holy Alliance, Emperor Franz II of Austria, Tsar Alexander I of Russia and King Friedrich Wilhelm III. from Prussia.
The special atmosphere of the health resort was retained even after the spring ran dry.

The classicist Comoedienhaus always finds enthusiastic audiences at drama, cabaret, cabaret or music events, as does the Hessian Puppet Museum, which opened in 1983, in the arcade building.
Another gem is a wooden horse carousel, which is over 230 years old, which has been lovingly restored with a lot of effort and is put into operation on special occasions.
