Treysa District: The impressive ruin of Totenkirche church is considered the most prominent landmark of the Treysa District. It was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. Every year, events take place in this fairytale scenery.
The medieval city fortification has been well-preserved throughout the historic old town area. On a round tour, you will enjoy the exciting panorama view of the Schwalm River Valley all the way to the Knüll Mountains.

Ziegenhain District:

The fortification with the moated castle of the former landgrave residence Ziegenhain Castle has been well preserved. The lovingly restored buildings were occupied by the landgraves of Ziegenhain from the 12th to the 17th century. Today, one of Germany's most modern correctional facilities is located on parts of the site.

The Schwalm region is considered the birthplace of some of the most popular fairy tales. Here, the Brothers Grimm wrote Little Red Riding Hood, among other things.
To this day, the famous traditional costume known as Schwalm-region Little Red Riding Hood costume reminds us of the fairy tale that happened here and inspired the Brothers Grimm.
Apart from the Salatkirmes and Hutzelkirmes festivals, you may admire the Schwalm region fairytale costume at the Museum of the Schwalm Region in Schwalmstadt-Ziegenhain.
