Schrecksbach

Fantastic things:

Schönberg Chapel, built around 1,000 A.D, with two Romanesque windows from 1490 and a Romanesque baptismal font; it is surrounded by a cemetery with historic tombstones, last renovated in 1997 to 2001. The chapel was erected on a conical basalt hill by students of St. Boniface; an access staircase of 78 steps leads up to it. Until the Reformation, SchrecksbachSchönberg wasconsidered a place of pilgrimage; its tradition has survived in our times on Ascension Day. In the belfry, there are three very old bells, dating respectively from the 15th century, 1511 and 1687. Holzburg Village Museum, founded by Pastor Metz in 1959.
The parish provided a half-timbered barn built in 1718 to house the museum. It contains one of the most comprehensive collections of individual clothing items such as bonnets and aprons, but also complete traditional costumes for the most diverse occasions, such as everyday, mourning, wedding and celebration costumes. In addition, there are items of Schwalm region linen embroidery, master craftsmanship, carvings, baskets, joinery and pottery on display.

Enchanting places:

Schrecksbach in Little Red Riding Hood Land. The Schwalm-Knüll Region has a new fairytale name: Little Red Riding Hood Land. The little red bonnet of the traditional Schwalm Region costume probably gave the girl in the Brothers' Grimm fairy tale its name; today, it serves as a trademark of this vacation region.
You get to see the famous traditional Schwalm Region costume every year at the church service for the harvest festival, and it is also on display at the Holzburg Village Museum. Two traditional costume groups in the Schrecksbach municipality still preserve the old traditions and costumes.
