Schauenburg - Fairytale Watch

schauenburgThe former fire watch in the Breitenbach District was converted to the Schauenburg Fairytale Watch in 1997. It commemorates the Brothers' Grimm two Schauenburg fairytale ‘contributors', Dragoon Constable Johann Friedrich Krause and Demoiselle Marie Hassenpflug.
The calligraphies and drawings of the books Krauses Grimmsche Märchen, Die Grimmschen Märchen der jungen Marie, Das Spinnstubenheft were created by native Schauenburg-Breitenbach artist Albert Schindehütte according to the original editions. Together with Heinz Vorjahr and Heinz Rölleke, he researched the origins of these fairy tales and the biographies of their contributors.
In addition, he created four huge woodcuts for the Fairytale Watch that are on display at the former fire hose tower.
The Fairytale Watch is run by a sponsoring association; they present regular poetry readings and concerts, cabinet exhibitions and presentations, as well as Fairy Tale Days for children offering pen and ink drawing and lino cutting.
The Fairytale Watch is open Sundays from 3pm to 6pm
For visits and guided group tours outside of opening hours, call for an appointment - catering on request.
