Nieste

Fantastic things:

Nieste - an officially recognised spa town with a population of approx. 2,000 - is the ideal resort in the middle of the Kaufunger Wald region, itself part of the Kaufunger Wald Nature Preserve on the Hesse side and the Münden Nature Preserve on the Lower Saxony side. Gentle hills and meadowed valleys with bubbling creeks and clear ponds cut deeply into the forest region. There are deciduous and coniferous woodlands as well as mixed forests offering peace and quiet for those seeking recreation; there are few other places providing such a perfect form of relaxation.

Enchanting places:

As soon as you are on the Gläsner Trail, you will feel the pristine natural landscape of the Kaufunger Wald and the mysterious fairytale world surrounding the Meissner-Kaufunger Wald Nature Preserve. There are many legends and fairy tales about Mother Hulda's native land and they accompany you on the well-marked Gläsner Trail. Three loop hike tours ranging from 5 km to 20 km provide access to the peaks around Bilstein Mountain (elevation 641 m above sea level). The cosy mountain inn offers hikers a tasty lunch and a beautiful panorama view far into Thuringia and Lower Saxony. On the trail, the mysterious Red Nieste Spring and romantic Lake Steinberg are nice resting spots.
