Nestled in the enchanting landscape of Habichtwald Nature Preserve, the climatic spa of Niedenstein is located in the northern tip of Schwalm-Eder County on the border to Kassel County. Far away from the centres of industrial production, it offers quiet and repose to both visitors and residents. Since 1982, Niedenstein has been an officially-recognised climatic health resort.
It offers a wide range of exercise activities in salutary air.
There are more than 70 km of well-maintained hiking trails through the romantic forests and wide valleys of the kurhessisches Bergland (Kurhesse Mountains) and there are numerous refuges, grill areas and resting benches along those trails. stle Ruin, Wartberg Mountain near Kirchberg, Weissenthal Mill, the prehistoric Lautarius gravesite, Landgrafenborn Spring Nature Preserve and others in field and forest.
The Nature Fitness Park of the Bad Emstal municipality and the city of Niedenstein was inaugurated in 2005. It offers approx. 50 km of trails on various skill levels for trend sports enthusiasts. No other facilities in all of Northern Hesse compare to it.
Enchanting places:
In the mountain gate of Knight ‘Hund' zu Kirchberg Manor, the Local Culture and History Society of Kirchberg maintains a small museum of local history; likewise, the Local Culture and History Society of Wichdorf has a small museum of local history in the Wichdorf community centre consisting of an exhibition room, a traditional room and the village archive. It presents work and household tools, furniture, clothing items and a shoemaker's workshop. The archive also contains some old documents on view.
