Homberg received its name from the Knights of Hohenburg.
The town has a cohesive half-timbered aspect around the historical market square with a water drainage channel. Towering above the red roofs, St. Marien Church is a Gothic hall church from the 14th century and was the starting point of the reformation in Hesse. The splendid choir windows and the monument of Landgrave Philipp commemorate this historical event.
Enjoy fine gastronomy in a historical atmosphere: The Gasthaus Krone Inn (built in 1480), The Gotisches Haus (oldest house in Homberg) or the Hohlebachmühle (mill wheel in operation)

At Hohenburg Castle ruins, you find the deepest basalt fountain in Germany, completely lined with brickwork, a medieval herb and vegetable garden and rose plantings at the castle wall.
