Herbstein

Deutsche Märchenstraße e.V.

Fantastic things:

Historic Old Town in a circular layout around the14th century parish church of St. Jacobus. The church is partially rebuilt in the Baroque style and exhibits late Gothic wall paintings and remarkable art objects: a pulpit and a baptismal font (from around 1700), figures of the Holy Virgin and St. Jacobus (early 16th century), St. Peter and St. Paul (around 1500) and St. Joseph with the Holy Child (first part of the 18th century).
Restored fortifications dating from the 13th century with a circular, partially accessible city wall and three defence towers. Many half-timbered houses from the 17th to 19th century, numerous wayside shrines, predominantly from the 18th century, two support columns of the old gallows (presumably 16th century) are located in the north-eastern part of town.
The Herbstein Life-Spiral: a meditation path in the shape of a spiral along a watercourse.
