The Knallhütte was the birthplace of Katharina Dorothea Viehmann, born Pearson in 1755, who later became known as the Fairytale Woman. As a child she heard many stories from the travelling merchants, journeymen and waggoners who passed through her father's inn. These legends and sagas captured the girl's imagination; she kept them in her memory and later told them to the Bothers Grimm. The history of the Knallhütte is closely entwined with the original Fairytale Woman, to whom the Brothers Grimm owe their most beautiful of fairytales.
