Bad Sooden-Allendorf

Fantastic things:
gradierwerk

Double your pleasure in the Werra Valley. In the once twin towns of Bad Sooden–Allendorf on the riverbanks, you'll find a stylish spa and health resort alongside lovely 17C Patrician houses. The Söder Tor with its Salt Museum is a jewel of the Hessian style half-timbered architecture. Just outside the gates of Allendorf's Old Town stands the old courtyard fountain and lime tree (Lindenbaum), the inspiration for the poem and melodic folk song, “At the Fountain by the Town Gate.“ Other sites to see include the 17th century Graduation House and salt works, the Weinreihe and Spa Gardens, the picturesque Fishermens' Quarter, the market square and old fortifications.

Enchanting places:

The Fountain by the Town Gate; the Salt Museum in Söder Tor, complete salt works including outdoor flood gates; the Border Museum (Schifflersgrund), and museum collection at Luditzer Heimatstube.
Nearby, see Hilgershäuser Cave, Hessen's largest and the oldest cited cavern in Germany.
Frau Holle's Pool on the massif Hoher Meissner.
Ruins of Roman walls south of Bad Sooden-Allendorf and the cairns, stone monuments from the Bronze Age.
