Witzenhausen - Berlepsch Castle

Berlepsch Castle is one of the outstanding buildings with historical importance in this region. 650 years ago, the family of Berlepsch set up this border fortification. A building that - preserved and protected for centuries - is representing another age. The value of the past is preceptible on this place. The castle complex can be traced back to the foundation by Arnold von Berlepsch in the years 1368/69. The middle-aged castle buildings have been expanded several times during the 16th century and rebuilt after the destruction during the Thirty Years War. Today, the appearance is especially affected by a renovation of the eminent architect Gustav Schönemark in the 1880s/'90s., The prominent silhouette of the castle complex is visable from a far distance, situated picturesquely on a spur at the edge of the Werratal valley. This specialty of the castle makes it so important concerning culture, history and art. Behind time-honoured walls magnificent premises are hidden. Every event - from weddings to conferences to big events -an exceptional ambiance can be experienced.
