Waldeck - Waldeck Castle

Waldeck castle presides 200 meter over the beautiful lake Edersee, the landmark of the region.The castel complex origins from the 12th centoury. In former times it was the ancestral seat of the Counts of Waldeck, after extensive and sensitive renovation it houses today a 4-star superior hotel with superior gourmet cuisine and private register office at the castle. Numbers of tourists are attracted by the panoramic view over lake Edersee with its dam, the national park and nature reserve Kellerwald which can be seen on the freely accessible terrace. The great hall and the cafe and restaurant Altane are offering an unforgettable panoramic view. The museum provides with an insight in the former usage of the castle as a fortress, barracks, prison as well as middle-age jurisdiction. A special highlight for children is the visiting of the spine-chilling instruments of torture, the cannons and the pillory.
